Marlo Triathlon09/01/10 FUN Tri Results Sprint Tri Results Saturday 9th of January 2010 saw the 19th annual Marlo Triathlon held in hot conditions on the immaculate lawns of the Marlo Hotel. Earlier in the day the temperature had nudged towards 40C but a weak cool change arrived just prior to the beginning of the Fun Tri, allowing athletes to compete in slightly more comfortable conditions. Spectators were treated to a quality field in the Sprint Distance Triathlon and saw the top 3 male athletes separated by just 16 seconds. Youngster Steven Mcshane held out the experienced Ryan Cross and Scottish visitor Stuart Fraser to win by just 6 seconds in the excellent time of 59:35. In the female division Sharon Dilly took the honours from Kristy Glover and Lauren Haylock in a time of 1:14:27 Numbers in the main race were slightly down on last year but this can be attributed to the hot conditions and a late change in the triathlon calendar which saw a major race scheduled for Sunday the 10th at Sandringham. Once again the first local team over the line was LSD – Luke Priestley, Sam Richardson and Luke Borley taking the place of Deon Scott on the bike. The first local female was Heather Macalister and the first local male, Peter Seal. In the Fun Tri, local athlete Kyle DiCecco swapped his motor bike for a push bike to take the honours for the third time. First in the male 14-17 was Adrian Cadd and the first male athlete in the 12-13 age group was Jack Hammond. The first females across the line in the Fun Tri were Tegan Jenkins (12-13), Lauren Grant (14-17) and Lynne Kahsnitz (18+). Winners of the Local Hero trophies in the Fun Tri were Kyle DiCecco and Paula Harris (18+) and Tegan Jenkins and Mitchell Eaton (under 18). 2010 football and netball coaches would be pleased with the efforts of the players who either participated in the races or helped out by volunteering to set up transition, take registrations, marshal and collate results. Over 10% of entries were players during the 2009 season. Senior footballers Adam Ilton, Jason Eaton, Luke Priestley, Tim Bourke and Luke Borley led the way in the main race while netballers Tegan Jenkins, Hayley Eaton, Katie Wait, Kelly Nettleton and Rachael Bates all had good races. The committee of the Orbost Snowy Rovers Football Netball Club would like to thank all of the sponsors that contributed to the staging of this year’s triathlon and acknowledge the support of the Marlo Hotel and Orbost Civil and Civic. Without whose help this race would not have eventuated. In recent years the number of races in this series has been reduced to just two – Marlo and Eagle Point. This is largely due to the difficulty in obtaining the necessary permits to stage such an event. The cooperation of Marlo Coast Guard, Marlo CFA, Orbost Police and Water Police, and Orbost Regional Health help to ensure the race is incident free. These organisations, combined with the large number of volunteers, help to create a community event that is raced in the right spirit. |
