This is the most members Triathlon Victoria has ever had, after finishing with 3,134 members at the conclusion of the 2014/15 season. Triathlon clubs in Victoria are the gateway for entry into our sport and provide training, support, volunteers and a positive environment which attracts members to our sport. Congratulations to Riviera Triathlon Club on the success of their programs and Anthony we wish you all the best with your triathlon endeavours!

Name: Anthony Goode - Club: Riviera Triathlon Club

Are you new to the sport? I have been doing Triathlons for about 2 years now. I
had always done a bit of running, riding and swimming for fitness but it wasn’t
till I stopped playing footy that I finally took the plunge and did my first
race.

Why did you join? Mainly for the insurance, I’ve got a young family to think about and this was a pretty cheap way to get some cover. But I’m also keen to meet some people through the tri club.

What are you looking forward to? Just slowly improving my fitness and results. Two years ago, in my first race, I came last in my age group. This year I have finished in the top half in my field in each race I have done. So slow and steady improvement is the goal. You can’t aim too high when you have a 4 year old and a 6 month old at home (my wife would kill me if I suggested the big I word at the moment). But I am keen to do my first Olympic distance this season.

What’s the best part about being a member of Riviera Triathlon Club? I’ve only been a member for a week but I raced in the Gippsland Sprint Championships on the weekend, which is organised by the RTC and they seem to be a great bunch of people. The race was really well organised and it was a fun and relaxed atmosphere which is perfect for us newbies. It was great seeing how inclusive they are of different ages and standards. I have also heard great things about their mini tri series which they run in Bairnsdale and Sale every Wednesday night during Summer. The local kids seem to love the mini tri’s and they have really taken off. It’s something I’d be keen to do with my own kids in a few years’ time.
